interior design trials, triumphs, and inspirations
The Frou Frou Juju.
August 3, 2018
Hello Everyone! I have recently added one of my bucket list decor pieces to our home and I am so very excited to share it with y'all. The Fetching home now has a Juju hat! I know...it sounds like something from a Dr. Seuss story but it is real and it is fabulous. Juju hats hail from Central Africa, specifically the Bamileke people of Western Cameroon. They are traditionally worn during various ceremonies to honor major life markers, (birth, marriage, death) and more importantly, the Fon (the sovereign male or King in each community).
These beautiful handmade pieces of art became hot commodities in the interior decor world, and can now be found easily throughout the globe. There are DIY tutorials aplenty on Pinterest, and a faux version was sold in The Spring Collection at Hobby Lobby . Needless to say, the Juju hat has become a sought after adornment for designers at every level, from professional to personal. I have Pinned the plumes several times, and to own one now is very exciting! Here are a few of my favorite Juju images to inspire your interior goals:
Kate Smith uses a bright pink Juju against a gorgeous green wall for a shocking statement in her home office. Equally beautiful, these bold hats are for sale by Table Tonic . I am a huge fan of the bright and bold color combinations! There are so many different color combinations, and sizes of Juju hats, which means they incorporate so well into many different design styles:
The two images below use Juju hats in popular shades of pink, and both vignettes have coastal vibes.
Obviously, Juju hats work wonderfully in Global design. The bright orange hat against a carved wood screen grabs your attention, while a crimson hat also stands out along with a tortoise shell and bone framed pictures in an aqua room.
One of my personal interior design Gurus, Krystine Edwards shows off her own Juju hat in two distinctly different spaces. Each time she places the hat over her bed, but look how well it goes with either space! She also shared the Society Social image in the bottom left corner, which features an uniquely patterned Juju.

Now, for my favorite Juju so far...because it is mine! This faded blue hat came from Iniva Boutiques ; I happened across it late one evening as I casually searched the Amazon (prime) jungle. I was nervous it wouldn't be as wonderful in person, but it was even better than I could have anticipated. The Iniva boutique offers several other colors and their prices are crazy good for these beauties.
My fetching husband bought the huge Audubon print of the Louisiana Blue Herron, several Christmas' ago, and I have dreamt that of a beautiful Juju to top off our top of the stairs vignette. This subtle color picks up the blues in the Audobon perfectly!
I now only have one problem with this Juju hat...it has made me want a few more to place in every room. If you have been a Juju admirer, JUST DIVE IN!
Thanks for stopping bye and reading and have a Fetching Thursday evening.
